Official Review of Gone Girl, the Novel

I Run For Books

If there was ever a murder mystery novel that made me cringe, it would be this one. At times I wondered if I should finish it. “Is there going to be serious blood and gore with this one? Is the next scene going to be totally disgusting?”

But I did finish it,and yes, there were some scenes that made me squirm, but I made it. And I have never read a book like this one, and I doubt I ever will find another one like it.

The book begins with the courtship between Amy and Nick, aka Lance. They are giddy and silly as lovers and newlyweds, and the diary entries Amy writes about Nick make it seem as if they have the perfect marriage. But after Amy’s mysterious disappearance, you realize that isn’t true.

The couple has turbulence in their marriage like any married couple does, but there are…

New Features For Your Enjoyment

I hope you guys had a great Easter! I relaxed with V and did some work on this site. I am still working and reworking, but I thought I would show you around, so that you can start using the features smoothly. 🙂

Free Ereading At Its Finest

First, there’s a page dedicated to helping you find that next great (free) Kindle ebook.  I wanted to create this for readers who–like me–love reading books on their Kindle or Nook, but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg (or even a finger). Most of these sites have 100% free Kindle ebook downloads. Some have Nook downloads, and some have a catalog of bargain (or $1) ebooks.

Find Your Next Great Race

I know how hard it can be to find a race in your area, or in a nearby state on the date you want to enter it. So, I am creating a catalog of search engines designed to help you find races all over the country, of any length. You’re welcome. 😉 You can find my race page here.

Race Reviews

So after I finish my races this year, what’s the 411 on the price? Location? Parking? Hey, what about their food? Did I like it? I’ll give you the skinny on all that stuff and more on my Race Reviews page here.

I’m having a blast putting all this together, and if you have any additional information you would like me to add, please feel free to leave a comment or email me at

Thanks, everyone!

Happy Easter!

I hope you are having a great day! It is calm and peaceful here; the sun was shining earlier and we are enjoying the day. We have a lot to be thankful for, as well.

Right before lunchtime there was thick, black smoke billowing up into the sky while we were outside talking to one of our neighbors. Turns out one of the homes down the street caught fire. Nobody knows what happened, and I’ll let the case play out so nothing gets in the way of the investigation, but it was not a pretty sight. I think everyone is all right, though. So thank goodness for that.

When something like this happens, it makes me realize how much we have to be thankful for. And I am especially thankful for my family, my health, and my safe warm home on a day like today; Easter Sunday.

I hope you get to spend some time with your family today, and enjoy a nice Easter dinner or lunch after church. Maybe a little Easter egg hunt with the kids, weather permitting? Or do you skip the egg hunts and strap on running shoes instead? 😉

Whatever you find yourself doing, I hope you are safe, happy, and with those you love.

Free Ebooks Available Here

All the free ebooks you could ever want; all in one place.

Centsless Books

This is my favorite website for free ebooks. They have a very clean, easy-to-navigate website, and they have downloads for every genre available.

Pixel of Ink

This is a great resource for free kindle downloads. It is updated daily, and they also offer bargain books to download from Amazon.

This is a website & app that syncs with your local library.  Create an account, or log in with Facebook. Next, set your library preference thru your location settings, and then log in to your local library’s website. From there you can search and download all the free ebooks that are available thru your library’s catalog. It’s easy, and you don’t have to remember to return the book. It will remind you via email that your loan is about to expire, but if you forget to return it, it will “return itself.” It’s so easy! I love using the app to download books from my local county library; I’ve been able to read many best sellers for free. 🙂

If you don’t have access to Overdrive, you can use to borrow and lend books from people. The loan will run 14 days, and is automatically returned to its owner, similar to Overdrive once the loan expires. Very convenient way of borrowing/lending books.

This is a great website because not only can you find and download free ebooks, but they have some extra special features that make this site unique.

The website is updated hourly, so go back often to find more and more free books! (You can never have too many books!)

Search by rating, author, genre, and more to find just the right books for your reading pleasure.

Import your wish list so eReaderIQ can help you find those books you’ve been wanting but can’t find or can’t afford.

This website is awesome, so give them a click and check it out!

Project Gutenberg

There are over 46,000 books available at this website, so go check it out.

Hundred Zeros

This is such a great site to find awesome free ebooks in every genre. I love it, and the site is so easy to navigate; that is huge for me. If I get confused, I log off and go somewhere else. But with Hundred zeros, (yes, I know they misspelled ‘zeroes.’ Don’t let your OCD get in the way) I am never disappointed.

Freebooksy is a blog dedicated to giving its readers access to free Kindle and Nook books. Give them a click and find out why so many people are flocking to Freebooksy for their ebook fix.

OHFB (One Hundred Free Books)

This website has free Kindle downloads in every genre you can think of, and shows you the newest releases on their front page. Each book is available at Amazon. Click the Book Deal Blog link at the top for even more downloads for your reading pleasure.

Free Books Hub is a beautiful site with large pictures of the book covers, and huge, easy-to-read DOWNLOAD FOR FREE buttons. At the top, they also have a link where you can find Dollar books.

Kindle Buffet

First of all, the name is cool. I love walking into a restaurant and seeing a buffet, so who wouldn’t love a buffet offering free and discounted Kindle ebooks? It’s like a dream come true!

Kindle Buffet offers many different genres of books, and has them all laid out in front of you, so you can easily find what you are looking for. You can even sign up to get email notices of the latest books being offered on their website.

I hope this helps you find all the free ebooks you’re looking for. If you have another website or app that you’d like me to add to this list, please email me at THANKS!

Longest Run to Date….Nailed It!

Earlier this week my inner beast mode came out and insisted that I run really, really far. Farther than I have ever run since my surgery. OK, I thought. Sure. It’s going to rain and I am lacking sleep (not to mention I haven’t planned for this in advance, i.e., fueled up properly), but heck. Why not. Let’s do it.

It was the morning of April 1st, and I laced up my Nikes and headed out the door towards a cemetery that has a funny NO EXIT sign. (I’ll just let that sink in for a moment).

I felt strong, my ankle didn’t hurt, and my SpO2 levels were normal. Things were looking good. The skies didn’t look too ominous either. So far, so good.

When I got to the street the cemetery was on, I didn’t think it would be all that far. I was approaching 3 1/2 miles traveled so far, and I was just a bit tired. But I kept pressing on. I turned left down 416th, and I was on my way.

I kept running, and running, and running (and taking walk breaks), and I didn’t see any sign of the cemetery. All I saw was miles and miles of road, and I began second guessing my choice of finding this nebulous NO EXIT sign. I could have sworn the cemetery was only a couple miles in, but I guess I was wrong.

And then….raindrops happened. Oh sure, I was dressed for any changes in the weather, but I didn’t really want to go home a drowned rat. So I turned around.

I needed a few more walk breaks by then, and I had what felt like a blister forming under my big toe (oh joy!) but I persevered. And when I did run, I felt like I was tapping into energy stores I didn’t know I had. I felt strong, even though I was running on fumes. I was channeling my inner Joan Samuelson, Pre, and Hal Higdon all at the same time. 🙂

0.6 miles from home, I was running out of gas. And it was starting to rain harder. I felt like I had walked into a shower that someone forgot to turn off. It was probably the longest 0.6 miles I’ve ever traveled.

But when I walked into my apartment and looked at my pedometer, I saw that I had run 7.66 miles. That’s 1.2 miles farther than my longest run to date…and I nailed it! Oh sure, I had blisters, rubbery legs, and sore muscles, but I did it.

Needless to say, I feel pretty fabulous and ready to tackle my dream of actually running 26.2 miles. I’ve only run 12 miles in the 19 years I’ve been running, so I’m hopeful I can run the other 14.2. 🙂

It’s amazing what the body can accomplish when you train it properly, and I’m delighted at how strong my ankle is after being broken (in fact, it’s probably the strongest joint in my whole body!).

Since Monday, I’ve continued on with my runstreak and have run 2.3, and 5.05 miles. I try to give my body 24 hours or more to recover, and that has helped a lot.

I’m excited about how my running has been going, and I hope you feel the same way!

Happy running!

I Love My New Site

Anyone can blog, but it takes a special kind of person to love their blog as much as their spouse, pet, or child. The latter would be moi. 🙂

This little slice of the blogosphere is not just a place to write about books I’ve read, and share with you how my running’s going (although that is what the majority of this blog is about lol), but I have some cool features for both runners and bookworms alike that I’m pretty excited about.

Here’s two new features I think you’re going to like if you’re a runner:

  • Links to search engines and websites where runners can find races in their area, quickly and easily, with a special feature of Washintonians.
  • Race reviews! When I enter/finish a race, I’ll rate it and share my experience/thoughts/review with my readers. Is it worth their time and money?
  • Body weight workouts: I’ll share some I’ve used that I like, and some that I’ve found on Pinterest you may want to try.

Here’s a couple new features for bookworms:

  • Links to the best possible places to buy, sell, swap, and review books online and in real life.
  • Information on books I’m selling (mostly paperbacks) for low prices.

These links can be found in the menu at the top of the page.

A blog should be a little slice of heaven, and be a place where the owner enjoys sitting down and sharing his/her story(s). That’s what this blog does for me. But I also love sharing things with you, and I hope some of these features make it a place that you’ll come back to. I hope it is as informative and fun as I intend it to be! 🙂

Have a great day everyone
